Samsung launches clamshell Galaxy Golden in India, asks ludicrous $840 for it

Have you ever wondered how much you’d have to pay to take a time machine for a quick ride if such a thing existed?

Well, if all you’d want to do is go back to the simpler times of mobile technology, when flip phones were cool, why don’t you throw $840 to Samsung and see what happens?

Better yet, I’ll let you what’ll happen, at least for those that reside in India. $843, or Rs. 51,900, will buy you a Samsung Galaxy Golden starting today and, though everyone else will still flaunt their Galaxy Note 3s and Apple iPhones around, you’ll think you’re all cool and special.

Until you’ll realize you were ripped off. Big time. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against clamshells per se. And it’s up to any Bob, Dick and Joe to evaluate aesthetics however they please. But cough up 840 frigging bucks for this kind of blast from the past, with a retro exterior, dual-core 1.7 GHz CPU, Android 4.2 and dual 3.7-inch Super AMOLED screens boasting 800 x 480 pixels resolution? That’s bananas.

For comparison, let’s mention the GNote 3, which looks like a Lamborghini Gallardo next to a 1971 Dodge Dart when pitted against the Golden, goes for roughly $730, or Rs. 45,000, nowadays in India. Now you see where I’m coming from?

What’s even more unsettling is an LTE-enabled version of the Samsung Galaxy Golden (model number GT-I9235) has dropped by GFX Bench a few days ago, likely signaling an international launch of the phone. As in European and possibly North American too. And don’t you forget about the W2014, the rumored Sammy flip phone packing Snapdragon 800 that I reckon will go for north of 1,000 bucks or something.

Well, it had to happen one of these days and, apparently, it did: Samsung has gone mad.
