Entry level GeForce 700-series card aims to take on integrated alternatives like AMD’s A-series and Intel’s Iris Pro 5000.
Shortly after Nvidia finally released its high-end GTX Titan Z, the video card maker also unveiled a new card on the exact opposite end of the spectrum: the GeForce GT 740.
Unfortunately the GT 740 doesn’t run on Nvidia’s new Maxwell architecture, but rather just keeps the older Kepler-powered GK107 GPU architecture. Effectively, Nvidia is pulling an AMD and simply rebranding an old card for a new line. On-board the card has 384 CUDA cores, 32 TMUs, and 16 ROPs with options for either 1 or 2 GB of memory. It has a base clock of 993 MHz, a memory clock of 5000 MHz, and a TDP of 64W.
A number of Nvidia’s add-in-board partners have also launched GT 740 cards, which should be available today from etailers around the web.
