Xolo launches Win Q900s, 'world's lightest smartphone'

Apart from being Indian manufacturer Xolo’s first Windows Phone device, the Win Q900s also has the honor of being the world’s lightest smartphone.

After Micromax, Xolo is the latest Indian manufacturer to join*the Windows Phone bandwagon, with a phone that it says is the lightest smartphone available.

Meet the Win Q900s, a device weighing in at just 100g, beating more popular devices like the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini (107g) and the Apple iPhone 5s (112g). The Q900s*is powered by Windows Phone 8.1 and will go on sale in India for Rs.11,999 INR ($200 USD), but*despite the lightweight construction and low price, the phone packs quite a punch in the hardware department.

The Q900s features a 4.7-inch IPS LCD display with HD (1280×720) resolution, with Dragontrail Glass for protection similar to costlier devices like Sony’s Xperia Z1 and Z2. There’s a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor under the hood, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 8GB of internal storage and a microSD slot, dual SIM slots and HSPA+ 42Mbps connectivity, and a 1,8000 mAh battery.

At $200, the biggest casualty of the Win Q900s will be*the Nokia Lumia 630, which carries a similar price tag but considerably lower-end specs. The handset will be available for purchase from the second week of July and should be able to drive plenty of consumers, at least until Google launches even cheaper high-value*Android phones under its Android One program.
