HGST rolls out new 12Gbps enterprise SAS SSDs

A new series of 12Gbps SSDs from HGST are making their way to the tech market very soon.




HGST has announced the release new SSDs aimed for corporate use and for data centers. These 2.5-inch SAS drives feature 12Gbps optimal data transfer speeds, and HGST plans to offer them at affordable prices that evenly match their performance capabilities.

The new SSDs are divided into three separate models. The Ultrastar SSD800MH.B will be available from 100GB to 800GB, capable of 25 full drive writes per day within a period of 5 years. The Ultrastar SSD1600MM will be available from 200MB to 1.6TB, and will be capable of 10 full drive writes per day within 5 years. The Ultrastar SSD1600MR will be catered in 250GB to 1.6TB capacities, though it is only capable of 2 full drive writes per day within 5 years.

All three new models have an overall average maximum sequential read/write speed of 1,100MB/sec (standard 765MB/sec) and has a maximum random write value of 130,000 IOPS (standard 110,000). The SSDs will also include several standard drive security packages, such as Instant Secure Erase, and FIPS 140-2 Level 2 Enterpise SED (Self-Encrypting Drive) protection.
