The mythological Japanese folk creatures known as the Youkai have captured the imagination of many around the world. They have also been featured in countless anime and manga series and have inspired*many video games as well.
Women’s lifestyle website MyNavi Woman has asked its female readers which Youkai-based anime do they like the most. Like their previous poll concerning the most popular magical girl series for women , the website polled women aged 22 – 34. With 200 valid responses, here are the results:

9)*Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan (4.0%)
8)*Humanoid Monster Bem (5.5%)

5) Natsume’s Book of Friends (12.5%)
4) Hell Teacher Nube (14.0%)
3)*InuYasha (15.0%)

1)*GeGeGe no Kitarou (31.5% of the votes)
In a landslide victory which ain’t very surprising at all, many women chose classic horror series,*GeGeGe no Kitarou, as their favorite as it is considered by many as the quintessential youkai anime series out there. Another popular series focusing on youkai is Yu Yu Hakusho which also unsurprisingly placed at #2.Classic shounen anime InuYasha and Hell Teacher Nube meanwhile took the #3 and #4 spots respectively while shoujo anime Natsume’s Book of Friends completed the top 5 with its own mysterious and funny cast of youkai characters, including Nyanko-sensei himself!What’s surprising in this ranking is that female fan-favorite Hoozuki no Reitetsu only placed at #10. The funny anime about the afterlife became a huge hit to female fans in Japan and consistently topped many rankings, however, in this one, it only placed 10th. Youkai Watch, which is one of the most popular anime in Japan right now also*did not make the Top 5 as it only placed #6.
