Huawei Ascend GX1 Budget Phablet Leaks Ahead of Launch

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei looks to be gearing up for the launch of yet another phablet device. The upcoming Huawei Ascend GX1 has been leaked by not just one but two sources. The first is the Chinese regulatory authority TENAA (Chinese FCC equivalent) and the being GizmoChina. The phablet is expected to arrive with a 6-inch display, similar to the company’s flagship Ascend Mate 7.

Although the display size is similar to the flagship Huawei, the specifications of the GX1 aren’t anywhere near as impressive. The Ascend GX1 features a 6-inch display with 1280 x 720 HD resolution, quad-core 1.4GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage with a microSD card slot for memory expansion, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, and runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat. The battery on the device is said to be around 3,500mAh, but it isn’t confirmed as of now. The phablet measures 161 x 84.5 x 9.55mm, which is about decent for an entry-level phablet. The device also supports GSM/CDMA 1X/CDMA2000/LTE FDD/TD-LTE networks. As you can expect by the specifications of the device, it will be priced at 1,590 YUAN ($255). Not the best value for money considering the spec-sheet of the device, but is still pretty decent for a large phablet. The device may be launched in other South Asian markets like India as well, although no information regarding that is available currently.

The pictures sent to GizmoChina compares the device against the company’s flagship Ascend Mate 7 smartphone, and it is clearly evident how the GX1 is larger physically. The bezels on the budget phablet are a lot larger than the ultra-thin bezels on the Ascend Mate 7. The overall design isn’t very striking either.

There are no details currently on the launch date or availability, so we will need to wait a few weeks before we get to hear more information on the device.
